My Favourites and "Must See" lists

I have added a list of my top 10 favourite Jackie movies and a list of my top 10 'must see' movies. LOL ok there are more than 10 in the 'must see' list but hey ... any excuse to watch Jackie movies right?

I thought you might be interested why I have chosen my 'must see' list.

The list has Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow because those are Jackie's 'breakthrough' movies that catapulted him into being a superstar. Fearless Hyena is there because it is Jackie's directorial debut. Miracles almost needs no explanation as to why it is there. The camera work in Miracles is just brilliant (and it's a good movie as well).

Drunken Master 2 has to be included in any list of Jackie movies if only for the final fight between Jackie and Ken Lo (although if we are talking incredible final fights Wheels on Meals would have to be included).

I have included Half a Loaf of Kung Fu because Jackie and Chen Hwa went off and made this very funny Kung Fu spoof movie which was then never released until after Jackie became a superstar. It is not the most brilliant movie plot-wise (plot? what plot?) but as a movie that showcases Jackie's innate commedic ability and is a taste of what was to come in the future it has to be seen by any serious fan.

New Fist of Fury is there because it the film that got Jackie back to Hong Kong and making movies. Yes it's spin off of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury (which Jackie was in as well briefly - don't blink or you will miss him) and Jackie dies at the end (You didn't REALLY think Shinjuku Incident was the first did you?) but it has some good fight scenes and training scenes.

Jackie's Police Story series are just classic Jackie movies. Featuring some of the crazier stunts he has done and culminating in New Police Story which shows Jackie experimenting with a darker more emotional character very succesfully. You can't watch one without watching them all.

Project A 1 and 2 are Jackie's classic period films. They perhaps are the two movies in which Jackie most clearly borrows from Buster Keaton/Harold Lloyd. A lot of work went into the authenticity of costumes and other details of the period.

And then lastly I included The Myth and Rob-B-Hood. I thoroughly enjoy both of them.

If I had to extend this list a litle further I would include Crime Story, Shinjuku Incident, and Forbidden Kingdom and LOL well pretty much all the rest of Jackie's movies as well.
